No. The Tech Academy is beginner-friendly, and students are not required to have prior coding experience or a technical background before enrolling. The curriculum is designed to help beginners build skills step by step.
Yes. The Tech Academy's bootcamps can be completed fully online. Online students receive help through instructor support methods such as phone calls, video conferencing, email and screen sharing. Students may also study on campus in Portland, Oregon.
You can start anytime. The Tech Academy uses open enrollment, which means there are no fixed cohort start dates. Once you enroll, you can begin when it is convenient for you.

The Tech Academy requires a minimum of 20 study hours per week and recommends 40 hours per week when possible. The programs are self-paced, so students can set their own study schedule and access course materials 24/7.
Instructors are available from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time Monday-Friday. AI support is provided 24/7/365 and is included in the tuition. If you submit work or questions outside instructor hours, they are typically handled on the next working day.
Yes, many students choose a part-time study pace because the bootcamps are self-paced and available online 24/7. You should still plan for at least 20 hours of study per week to meet the minimum recommendation.

The final course in every bootcamp is the Job Placement Course. It covers job search preparation such as interviews, resumes, coding challenges, soft skills, networking and where to find technical job opportunities. The Tech Academy also has job placement staff who assist students with their job search.
The Tech Academy directs students to review student outcome statistics through CIRR. For accuracy, any published placement rate should include the reporting period, program, methodology and whether the data is independently verified. CIRR reports are designed to show information such as graduation rates, employment outcomes, salaries and job titles.
Yes. The Tech Academy is a licensed trade school and is authorized to issue certificates for its programs. Graduates receive a certificate after completing their bootcamp.
The Tech Academy is licensed as a career school through the Oregon Higher Education Coordinating Commission. Licensing is not the same as accreditation: HECC states that its Private Career Schools unit is a regulatory and licensing state office, not an accrediting agency.
Most bootcamps require either a Windows 10 computer with an i5 processor, 8GB of RAM and a 128GB drive, preferably SSD, or a Mac with 8GB of RAM and a 256GB drive. The Game Developer Bootcamp has higher requirements, including a quad-core processor, dedicated graphics card and DirectX 11/12 compatibility. The UI/UX Designer and Mobile App Developer bootcamps require a Mac with at least 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
On every bootcamp, there are points where Microsoft software and Windows will be required.
If you are studying on an Apple computer, you will be required to purchase and install Windows and other Microsoft software. Mac users may have difficulty switching over. It is possible to run Microsoft software on an Apple machine, or even install Windows, but there are potential bugs and issues in doing so.
For students in need of a Windows laptop (PC), we have refurbished or used machines that can be purchased from the school for $399. These should be able to operate all required software for most bootcamps. The minimum laptop requirements are listed under “What computer or laptop do I need?” above.
Again, if you are a Mac user and choose not to switch to a Windows PC for the duration of your training, you will be required to purchase and install Windows and to run other Windows-based software on your Mac — and there are occasional imperfections when doing so. Please either proceed with this information in mind or obtain a Windows laptop with the specifications listed above.

Yes. The Tech Academy's online bootcamps are designed so students can study from anywhere they have an internet connection. Students outside Oregon or outside the United States should confirm any local requirements with admissions before enrolling.
Refunds are prorated based on calendar weeks from the date the student signed the enrollment agreement. Refunds are not based on hours studied or credits completed. No refund is granted once a student is 50% into the program. Students using in-house financing or an income share agreement are not eligible for refunds. Students should review the full Refund Policy page and their Enrollment Agreement for the exact schedule.
The Tech Academy's curriculum was primarily created by Jack Stanley (opens in a new tab) and Erik Gross (opens in a new tab). They plan the curriculum together, Jack writes the content and Erik edits it. Other contributors have helped with curriculum development, and Dr. Brent Wilson (opens in a new tab) from George Fox University (opens in a new tab) serves as curriculum advisor.

Yes. The Tech Academy offers a 5% commission for referred students who enroll in a bootcamp. The commission may also be applied toward your own tuition. To qualify, the referred student must pay tuition in full upfront; referral commissions are not paid on monthly payments.
